The International Studies (IS) major requires participation in an approved study abroad program or an approved international engagement activity. Please indicate your plan to meet that requirement.
Note: This form should be submitted to the IS coordinator within no more than three months of a student having earned 60 credit hours. The plan that you provide below is expected to be followed in order to facilitate timely completion of the IS major requirements. Any changes must be approved by the Faculty prior to departure. Adequate time must be allowed for all approval processes.

Note: The IS Faculty must approve non-IU programs for meeting the IS requirements for study abroad; additional information about the program will be required. Approval is subject to convincing evidence of the program’s educational value; the Faculty’s decision will be final. Upon receipt of this form, the IS coordinator will seek a meeting with the student for an initial discussion.
Petition for Exception
The IS Faculty realize that under rare and exceptional circumstances, a student may be unable to travel abroad. If this is the case, the student must provide compelling reasons why a study abroad program is not possible. If an exception is approved, the student must then propose and gain approval for an alternative experience. Please realize that the IS Faculty cannot guarantee that your alternative proposal will be accepted. The Faculty’s decision will be final.
I will not be able to participate in a study abroad program.
